How to Prepare for Your Newborn Photography Session
You’ve just welcomed your little one into the world—congratulations, Mama! Whether this is your first baby or your third, the newborn days are filled with love, exhaustion, and moments you wish you could bottle up forever. A professional newborn session is one of the most meaningful ways to preserve these fleeting memories. But you might be wondering: “How do I prepare for something like this?”
As a luxury newborn photographer serving Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Delray Beach, Parkland, and Pompano Beach, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
Here’s exactly how to prepare for your newborn photography session so it’s smooth, stress-free, and unforgettable.

1. Book Before Baby Arrives
The best time to book your newborn session is while you’re still pregnant—usually during your second or third trimester. This ensures I have a spot held for you around your due date, and we can plan all the beautiful details in advance.
Most of my clients from Parkland, Boca Raton, and Fort Lauderdale reach out between 25–32 weeks pregnant to secure their session.
2. Don’t Worry About What to Bring
Seriously—just bring yourselves and your baby. My Deerfield Beach studio is fully stocked with everything we need:
Organic wraps
Soft, neutral-toned outfits
Beautiful handmade props
Cozy textures that photograph like a dream
Everything is carefully chosen to reflect my timeless, natural style and cleaned between each session.
3. Plan for a Calm, Cozy Experience
Your session will last around 2–3 hours, depending on baby’s feeding and sleeping needs. This allows plenty of time for breaks, snuggles, and soothing. The studio is warm, quiet, and designed to make both baby and parents feel at ease.
Many of my moms from Delray Beach and Pompano Beach say it’s the most peaceful part of their week—and a rare chance to just sit and enjoy watching their baby be beautifully documented.
4. Feed Baby Right Before the Session
A full belly = a sleepy baby. If possible, try to feed baby right before you arrive or as soon as you get to the studio. Don’t worry—if baby needs to eat mid-session, we’ll pause. These moments are never rushed.
Pro tip: Dress baby in a simple button or zip-up onesie to make undressing easy once we begin.
5. What to Wear (For Parents)
If you’ll be in the photos with your baby (which I always encourage!), stick to soft, neutral tones. Think ivory, beige, taupe, or muted earth tones. These colors photograph beautifully, keep the focus on baby, and create a timeless aesthetic.
Clients from Fort Lauderdale to Boca Raton often choose light linen dresses or simple, cozy knits—and I’m always here to help style you if you need suggestions.
6. Relax—You’ve Hired a Pro
I’ve photographed hundreds of newborns, and every baby is different. Some sleep the entire time. Others need extra cuddles and feeding breaks. Whatever your baby needs—we follow their lead.
You don’t have to worry about posing, soothing, or managing the flow. I’ve got it all covered. All you need to do is sit back and soak in the beauty of this once-in-a-lifetime moment.
